Indian payment agencies joined up with OpenAI to launch AI agent trading at ChatGPT

On Thursday, Razorpay, an online payment gateway, released a statement that the Indian retail payment agency, the National Payment Corporation of India (NPCI) and Razorpay, had joined forces with the artificial intelligence giant OpenAI to introduce agent trading on its chat-talking robot ChatGPT.

According to the Indian Economics Times, the service is still in a pilot phase and will be visible in a few days after ChatGPT’s introduction of “immediate billing” functionality, which will provide Indian users with a direct shopping experience similar to that. The statement stated that the service was based on UPI Circle and UPI Reserve Pay and was supported by Razorpay Bank partner Axis Bank and Airtel Payments Bank. BigBasket, under the umbrella of Tata Group, was one of the first businesses to receive payment from the IA’s original agent on ChatGPT.

As an important part of this cooperation, the three parties will explore functionality for AI-based payment applications. For example, when the user asks ChatGPT about the recipes, the AI chat robot will search for the corresponding ingredients from the BigBasket repository, provide the user with a list of options and, upon confirmation, complete the order through the Razorpay payment post. Razorpay emphasized that orders supported real-time tracking and could be cancelled at any time.

“The plan will assess how to extend these innovations to new business areas and proxy scenes with UPI. Future AI agents may be awarded payment vouchers to complete transactions on behalf of the user. “Razorpay adds:

At the DevDay 2025 Developer ‘ s Congress, OpenAI has introduced many applications for ChatGPT, including Booking.com, Canva, Coursera, Expedia, Figma, Spotify and Zillo. The co-founder and CEO Sam Altmann announced that the developers would be able to build and test applications in ChatGPT using the software development toolkit since this week. Later this year, OpenAi will also submit for review the OpenDever application and establish a public application catalogue for users. Altman also revealed that the number of developers using the OpenAI tool had doubled to 4 million and that the number of API users had increased from 300 million token per minute to 6 billion. At the same time, ChatGPT ‘ s weekly active user size has exceeded 800 million, eight times greater than in 2023.
